When Maya's grandmother Lucy died, she left a box of her possessions in the care of a friend to be presented to Maya when she turned sixteen. As our story opens, Maya is rummaging through the box for anything of interest. Mostly, the stuff is ordinary, family heirlooms, but there is one item of significance. A baka...an amulet supposedly imbued with the powers of the voodoo goddess, Sirene Erzulie. Maya thinks this is way cool and slips the baka around her neck. Then heads back to the Institute on her bike. However, a carload of reckless surfers runs her off the road, rendering her unconscious. Naturally, Tom and Jennifer and the others are terribly worried about Maya's condition. Especially when she begins to have prescient hallucinations about each of them: Holly winning the lottery; Jennifer discovering a part of Cap's past which drives a profound wedge between them; Dean being swept under a wave while surfing, etc. And worst of all, now the baka is missing. Will they ever get it back? What about all those dire predictions? Watch Flipper this week to find out.
