As the show opens, Maya and Jennifer watch in horror as a rare, baby seal is about to become the victim of a vicious shark attack. Luckily, Russ McGill, the "ultimate" lifeguard, is in the area training for an upcoming proficiency test/competition. He makes a daring rescue, as he has done so many times before over the last 20 years, and saves the helpless little seal.

Later we learn that once upon a time, Russ was Tom's mentor and role model. Except now it's different. Now, Tom's in his prime as a rescue officer and Russ seems to be slipping a little. Still, it's great for Tom to see his old buddy and to be able to root him on in the lifeguard competition, which Russ routinely dominates. What isn't so great is that Jennifer apparently has developed a strong attraction to the rugged lifeguard/hero. Cap on the other hand wants Russ to star in a series of promotional videos. So matters quickly begin to get tense between Russ and Tom.

Even though Russ insists his only focus is the competition, Tom isn't convinced. In the end, it's Jennifer who finally discovers Russ' motives. Tune in to this episode for the details.
