It is Tom Hampton's birthday and everyone at the institute appears to have forgotten. Jennifer, who was away at a conference in Brazil, comes back a day early to help Quinn and the other interns throw a surprise party for Tom. As Jennifer leaves the airport, a man named Slater drops a package containing five discs into her Bal Harbor bag, to avoid two men who are following him. Back at the institute, Maya, Holly, and Dean work on a telepathy experiment involving Maya and Flipper. Maya insists that she and Flipper communicate telepathically. However, Holly and Dean aren't buying it. After Jennifer arrives, Tom breaks his leg and has to stay at the institute. Slater finds Jennifer at the Institute and poses as a telephone repair technician to retrieve his discs. Quinn blows his cover before Slater has a chance to get the discs. Jennifer discovers these discs and has Simon try and decode them. Later that evening, while everyone, except Tom, is down at the shipwreck preparing for Tom's party, Slater breaks into the Institute. Flipper communicates to Maya that Tom is in trouble. Maya tells the others something is not right at the Institute and they should return. Meanwhile, Simon manages to decode the discs. What has Simon revealed? Will he find the information he’s looking for in time? What kind of danger is Tom in? Will Maya and Flipper’s telepathy save Simon and Tom from the estranged Slater?
