Pam notices that Mike and Maya are suddenly acting strange. She soon learns that Maya has been living alone for several days. Pam moves her in to live with her and Mike after Maya tells her that her sister "Kendra" is away in Texas interviewing for a job.
Meanwhile benefactor Sydney Brewster pays the research center a visit and is driving Keith and Pam crazy.
As Maya tries to leave town, she is stopped by a "child services" worker who explains to Pam and Mike that Maya is not who she seems. She tells them that Maya Solo is really Maya Graham, a runaway who has been alone for some time.
Maya escapes out a window and tries to become a "mermaid" by diving in the ocean. She nearly drowns but is pulled to safety by Mike and Flipper. Pam shows up and promises her that she can live with them for good.
